C-Top Smart Control Head
General Description
C-Top is a pneumatic smart control head designed for the control of automatic process valves.
Thanks to AS-Interface (AS-I) communication:
- the valve is commanded from a PLC or control panel,
- valve position and status are fed back over the same line.
C-Top combines both pneumatic and electrical control of valves in a single compact unit.
C-Top control heads with AS-I communication are designed for use with the following automatic valves and actuators:
- Pneumatic butterfly valves
- Reversing valves
- Ball valves
- Anti-mixing valves
- Seat valves
- Other linear stroke actuators (maximum stroke distance ≤ 62 mm)
Each AS-I "host" unit can manage up to 31 C-Top control heads on the same line.
Operating Principle
- C-Top is mounted on the pneumatic actuator of the valve.
- It receives an open/close or positioning signal from the control panel or PLC.
- It moves the valve to the requested position according to that signal.
- At the same time it sends the status/position information of the valve back to the PLC or control panel.
C-Top works as a "signal and command device" for all piston-operated process valves and performs the following core functions:
- Pneumatic and electrical control of valves
- Position indication and feedback
- Bus communication over AS-Interface

- DN25 – DN100
- Pressure: 6 – 8 bar
- Suitable temperature range: -10°C to +150°C
- Connection parts: 304 or 316L
- Seal type: EPDM and FPM (optional)
Solenoid Valve Options and Types
Up to three solenoid valves can be configured on a C-Top.
Solenoid types:
- 1 solenoid valve:
- Normally open (NO) / normally closed (NC) option
- 2 solenoid valves:
- For double acting actuators
- 3 solenoid valves:
- Configuration especially for mix-proof valves
Solenoid technical values:
- Operating pressure: 0.15 – 0.7 MPa (22–102 psi)
- Power: DC 0.55 W
- VA rating: DC 1.9 VA
- Response time: ≤ 25 ms
- Optical indicator: Red mark (optical index: red)
This structure offers flexible solenoid combinations for different valve types and process needs on the same C-Top platform.
